Position
PSSO is actively seeking a Events & Volunteer Coordinator who is resourceful, results driven, and enjoys working in a fast paced environment, with 2+ years experience in a not-for-profit environment. This role requires a natural born leader who is passionate about bringing people together to make a difference in the community. You excel at developing, implementing and delivering successful fundraising events, and at building relationships and empowering individuals through volunteerism. You thrive in a busy atmosphere and are motivated by a challenge. You are comfortable with flexible working hours, enjoy working with volunteers and leading events. As with all positions at PSSO, you put people living with Parkinson's disease first in all that you do.
Our Mission
Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario enhances the quality of life and care for people living with Parkinson's in Southwestern Ontario. The Society is a non-profit organization governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are supported by donations from individuals, members, corporations, foundations, and the dedicated efforts of volunteers.
Qualifications and Responsibilities
- University Degree or College Diploma preferably in Community Development, Event Management or Volunteer Management
- 2+ years experience in a not-for-profit with a proven track record in event management
- Experience in obtaining and growing sponsorships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships
- Strong negotiation and facilitation skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, preference will be given to those with a working knowledge of Raiser's Edge and Better Impact
- Ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, solve problems and make decisions
- Ability to travel, and must have access to vehicle and valid driver's license
- Successfully implement Walk for Parkinson's, Parkinson Golf Classic and 3rd Party fundraising events
- Establish volunteer committees for events
- Revenue generation through sponsorship, donations and event participation
- Develop work plans and budgets for each event/activity; and monitoring budgets and expenses
- Ensure all fundraising activities comply with all legislation and guidelines including those governing donor privacy, donor rights, CRA fundraising and charitable receipting regulations
- Knowledge in the use of Better Impact, our volunteer management system, and ability to train other staff in the use of it
- Support volunteer and student recruitment for placement or volunteer opportunities
- Maintain a comprehensive recruitment, orientation, training, and retention and recognition plan for volunteers.students to ensure that all volunteers/students are acknowledged and feel valued
- Maintain complete and accurate records including volunteer policies, procedures, position descriptions, standards of conduct, reference checks and, where applicable, criminal back ground checks
- Represent PSSO with volunteer associations throughout the region and participate in volunteer fairs, festivals, schools, corporations, etc in promoting PSSO
