“There are so many things you do have control over. The first thing is attitude. You can choose to stay curious, keep learning, and live fully – even with Parkinson’s.”

Meet Barbara.
Barbara’s journey with Parkinson’s is one of deep reflection — and bold action. She’s decided to focus her energy on the present, cutting out negativity and embracing what brings her joy. Whether it’s connecting with support groups or dancing when the music hits, Barbra’s not letting Parkinson’s write her story — she’s writing it herself.

For Barbara, Parkinson’s was a wake-up call — not to slow down, but to live with more intention.

“I’m aware of my diminishing time and energy to get things done,” she shares. “So I got rid of negative people in my life, and I focus on today.”

Her approach to staying positive is simple, but powerful: surround yourself with good people, become your own advocate, and dance — whenever the music moves you.

Barbara credits Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario with helping her stay connected and informed. From support groups to resources and conferences, she knows she’s not facing this alone.

“If someone should get diagnosed with Parkinson’s, I would tell them — it’s not the end of the world. There are so many things you do have control over. The first thing is attitude.”

That’s Barbara’s way of getting back at Parkinson’s — and it’s a beautiful one.

Every day, she chooses joy, purpose, and connection — and encourages others to do the same.
